The designations of most SKF rolling bearings follow a system that may consist of a basic designation with or without one or more prefixes and/or suffixes, as shown in the table and the examples below.

Prefixes and suffixes provide additional information about the bearing.

Prefixes are mainly used to identify components of a bearing. They can also identify bearing variants.

Suffixes identify designs or variants, which differ in some way from the original design or from the current basic design. The suffixes are divided into groups. When more than one special feature is to be identified, suffixes are provided in the order shown in the table below. 

Descriptions of commonly used prefixes and suffixes are given in the following sub-sections.
Details of the significance of specific prefixes and suffixes are given in the relevant product sections.

A                Deviating or modified internal design with same boundary dimensions. As a rule the significance of the letter is bound to the particular bearing or bearing series.

Examples:
4210 A Double row deep groove ball bearing without filling slots
3320 A Double row angular contact ball bearing without filling slots
AC              Single row angular contact ball bearing with a 25° contact angle
ACB             Single row angular contact ball bearing, high-speed B design, 25° contact angle
ACD            Single row angular contact ball bearing, high-capacity design, 25° contact angle
ACE             Single row angular contact ball bearing, high-speed E design, 25° contact angle
ADA            Wide snap ring grooves in the outer ring; a two-piece inner ring held together by a retaining ring
ADB            Wide snap ring grooves in the outer ring; a two-piece inner ring held together by a retaining ring; modified internal design
AH               Bearing for air-handling applications
AS            Needle roller bearing with lubrication hole(s) in the outer ring, the number following indicates the number of holes
ASR            Needle roller bearing with annular groove and lubrication hole(s) in the outer ring, the number following indicates the number of holes
B                Deviating or modified internal design with same boundary dimensions. As a rule the significance of the letter is bound to the particular bearing series.

7210 B Single row angular contact ball bearing with a 40° contact angle
32210 B Tapered roller bearing with steep contact angle (steeper than 32210)
1726209 B-2RS1/VP274 Y-bearing with two lubrication holes in the outer ring, one on each side, positioned 120° apart
Adapter sleeves for oil injection: One or two oil supply ducts at the end opposite the threaded section
Adapter sleeves for inch shafts: Whitworth thread
Motor encoder unit with a glass fibre reinforced PA66 cage, ball centred
Polymer ball bearing with components made of polyethyleneterephthalate (PET)
KR cam follower with a hexagonal recess on both ends of the stud
BE              Single row angular contact ball bearing with a 40° contact angle and optimized internal design
BEJ              Single row angular contact ball bearing with a 40° contact angle and optimized internal design, with ball centred stamped steel cage
BEM            Single row angular contact ball bearing with a 40° contact angle and optimized internal design, with machined steel cage
BEP              Single row angular contact ball bearing with a 40° contact angle and optimized internal design, with cage of glass fibre reinforced polyamide 66
BEY              Single row angular contact ball bearing with a 40° contact angle and optimized internal design, with ball centred pressed brass cage
BF              Needle roller with flat ends
